The site of the old cattle market is being developed by Stanhope PLC and is due for completion in 2014. The Old Market will include a Debenhams department store, six screen digital Odeon cinema, Waitrose food store and a variety of shops and restaurants.
This exciting £90m development is fully funded by the private sector. Granted planning consent in March 2011, the scheme will provide more than 1,100 new jobs for the city and act as a catalyst for future investment in the area.
The 29,000sq m scheme is being designed by internationally acclaimed architects Allies & Morrison and Leslie Jones. It has received support from regional design experts, MADE (Midland Architecture and Designed Environment), who praised its support of the existing city centre by marrying the scale of its new buildings and spaces with Hereford’s local character and historical architecture.
Demolition has now started with all shops and restaurants open in 2014.
